How does content moderation work on PlayHouse?
We moderate content to keep PlayHouse safe and lawful, and to enforce our Terms of Service and Content Moderation Policy. We may review and remove anything shared on PlayHouse, including posts, stories, messages, media and live streams.
Checks before content goes live
Every photo and video uploaded to PlayHouse, including media sent in messages, is checked as it's uploaded:
- Hash matching. We compare a digital fingerprint of each upload with lists of known abusive images, including the StopNCII.org list of non-consensual intimate images and industry lists of known child sexual abuse material. A match is held back from view for our team.
- Automated image checks. Images and video frames are checked for nudity and for signs that someone in sexual content may be under 18. Likely minors are held for specialist review, and weaker signals are sent to our team to review.
- Placement rules. Nudity isn't allowed in a profile picture, banner or cover image, so an image like that won't be saved. Explicit posts are marked as sensitive, which means people must be signed in and opt in to see them.
Sometimes an upload stays in review until a check can finish. It appears once the check is complete and nothing else is holding it.
People review what's flagged
Trained moderators review content that's flagged automatically or reported by the community. Anything involving possible child sexual abuse is handled only by specialist reviewers. You can help by reporting anything that breaks our rules.
What we can do
Depending on what we find, we may:
- remove the content;
- keep a post up but mark it as sensitive;
- send a warning;
- suspend or ban the account. While an account is suspended for a safety reason, its earnings are held.
Illegal content is removed, and we report it to the authorities where appropriate. We report suspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
If you disagree
When we remove, restrict or warn about your content, we let you know, and the notice includes a link to appeal. If your whole account was suspended, use the account appeal form. See How do I appeal a decision? and our Appeals Policy.
